Rolex Oyster Perpetual Ref.1002 "Bréguet Numerals Dial"

€32.000 EUR

Is it a prototype or a production watch? It's so rare that it's almost impossible to say for sure. Dating from the 1980s, it may well be one of those countless confidential variants that Rolex produced without ever properly documenting them.

I personally know of two examples: one recently sold by a colleague, and this one, which I've long coveted, kept until now in a large Italian collection.

It's a Rolex Oyster in steel with a sapphire crystal, seemingly very simple. Its 35mm diameter makes it extremely wearable every day. But it's obviously the dial that makes all the difference.

It features a dial that is absolutely unconventional for Rolex, with Breguet-style painted hour markers, an aesthetic style more readily associated with Patek Philippe or Breguet than with the crown. At Rolex, this type of numeral is extremely rare, the brand having almost always favored Roman numerals or baton hour markers.

We are therefore dealing with an exclusive, original, almost experimental watch, and all the more desirable for it. The example presented is in remarkable, virtually new condition, and clearly has been worn very little.
