Rolex GMT-Master Réf. 1675 Gilt Dial "Chapter Ring" from 1961

€31.000 EUR

This Rolex GMT-Master reference 1675 in steel is among the very first productions of the model, dating from the early 1960s, a direct successor to the reference 6542. This is the very first version of the 1675, an absolutely fascinating transitional watch in the history of the GMT.

It still features the "railroad" dial with a chapter ring marked SWISS, directly inspired by the 6542, but it already introduces several major improvements. The dial now bears the inscription "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified," with the addition of the word "Superlative," marking a significant step in the evolution of the GMT-Master. The case also adopts the crown guards in their very first iteration, called cornino, a signature of the earliest 1675 models.

This example is particularly remarkable for its level of authenticity and preservation. The lacquered dial is superb, with a perfectly preserved surface and luminous dots that are entirely original. The entire piece exudes coherence and absolute respect for the original design, right down to the riveted bracelet, perfectly in keeping with the period.

This chapter ring cornino configuration is among the most sought-after versions of the GMT-Master. It combines the pure, historical aesthetics of the 6542 with the technical advancements that would ensure the enduring success of the reference 1675 at Rolex. It is a timepiece of great elegance, extremely desirable, and clearly one of the absolute must-haves for any vintage GMT collector.
